He has been avoiding making trouble for others but his life changes when he meets a girl Yuzuriha Inori, a member of a resistance guerrilla group called "Undertaker", whose members pilot mecha weapons to fight against the government.

Namikawa is the son of a disgraced politician who, along with his father and sister, have travelled to a small town after living in Tokyo. After a murder, unusual for such a place, happens near to the school he is in, things get even more unusual when he is almost pulled into the TV in his house, but is saved by the fact it is too small. Later, his friends seek out a larger TV, and all three of them fall into it and enter a different world: one that threatens them. Namikawa responds to a voice, and brings out a 'persona' - some large, powerful being that fights on his behalf in a bizarre, surreal world.

Hasegawa Kodaka is a recent transfer student to St. Chronica's Academy, a Catholic high school. As with every other school he has ever attended, he finds it difficult to make friends there because of his naturally-blond hair and fierce-looking eyes, which make him look like a dangerous "yankee" to his prejudiced schoolmates. One day, Kodaka accidentally comes across the equally solitary and very abrasive Yozora Mikazuki while she converses with her imaginary friend Tomo. Realizing that neither of them have any social lives, they decide that the best way to improve their situation is to form a club: the Neighbor's Club precisely intended to make friends and learn social skills.

The story centers around three siblings, twins Kanba and Shouma, and the ill sister, Himari Takakura. Himari passes away after going out on a trip with her brothers. She was however, miraculously saved by a spirit thriving in a penguin-shaped hat. In return for her extended life, the twins must search for an item known as the Penguin Drum with the aid of three penguins which are visible only to the siblings.
